Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou has dismissed suggestions that his club are contenders for the Scottish Premiership title. The Lanarkshire side currently sit in second place, trailing leaders Celtic by nine points after 26 matches. Askou stated that internal discussions regarding a league challenge are non-existent, according to the Daily Record.
The manager emphasised that the squad remains focused on individual match performances rather than the league table. Motherwell have won four of their last five league fixtures, including a 2-1 victory over Hibernian. This form has placed them above Rangers in the standings, per reporting from The Scottish Sun.
Despite the current league position, Askou told reporters that external expectations do not affect the team's preparation. The club last won the top-flight title in 1932. They next face Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday. Askou arrived at Fir Park in June 2024 and has overseen a significant improvement in the side's defensive record this season.
