Campaigners seek global ban for secret filming coach

Victims of a coach who covertly filmed women players in changing rooms are calling for a worldwide lifetime suspension from the sport.

Victims of former coach Joseph ‘Joe’ Quinn are demanding a global lifetime ban from football after he avoided a prison sentence for voyeurism. Quinn was convicted of secretly filming women and girls in changing rooms and showers between 2018 and 2021. He received a 20-week suspended sentence at Lisburn Magistrates' Court, according to the Irish News.

Campaign groups and victims have expressed concern that Quinn could still work in football abroad if a worldwide ban is not implemented by governing bodies. The Irish Football Association previously issued a lifetime ban within its jurisdiction, but campaigners argue this does not prevent him from coaching in other countries. Women's aid organisations are now calling on FIFA to intervene and apply a universal restriction, per the Belfast Telegraph.

One victim stated that the current sentencing did not reflect the gravity of the offences committed against players. The call for a global ban aims to ensure player safety across all footballing associations, according to reports from Northern Ireland.
