Jess Fishlock, the Seattle Reign midfielder and most-capped Wales international, has joined the EuroGames 2027 as an official ambassador. The event, which Cardiff will host between July 7 and July 10, 2027, is Europe's largest multisport competition for the LGBTQ+ community. Fishlock stated that the current political climate influenced her decision to support the tournament in her home country, according to The Guardian.
Organisers expect the 2027 games to attract more than 5,000 participants competing in approximately 30 different sports. Fishlock, who has earned 154 caps for Wales, noted the importance of visibility for athletes. The EuroGames aims to promote equality and inclusion through competitive sport, per The Athletic. Cardiff was selected as the host city in 2024, beating a rival bid from Lyon. Fishlock continues to play professionally in the National Women's Soccer League in the United States, but she remains a central figure in Welsh sport. The tournament marks the first time the EuroGames will be held in Wales.
