Hearts beat Motherwell 2-1 to boost title hopes

Hearts moved closer to a first Scottish Premiership title since 1960 with a narrow victory over Motherwell at Tynecastle Park.

Heart of Midlothian secured a 2-1 win against Motherwell to maintain their position at the top of the Scottish Premiership. Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson watched from the stands as Steven Naismith's side extended their lead in the title race. The victory followed a significant midweek result where the Edinburgh club defeated Portuguese side Braga in European competition.

Lawrence Shankland opened the scoring for the hosts before the interval, according to Sky Sports. The forward has now scored 24 league goals this season. Motherwell equalised through a Theo Bair header, but Kenneth Vargas restored the lead for the home side late in the second half.

The result leaves Hearts 10 points clear of second-placed Rangers, though the Glasgow side holds two games in hand, per reports from The Guardian. Hearts next face Aberdeen as they seek to become the first club outside the Old Firm to win the league in 41 years. Motherwell remain in the bottom half of the table.
