Juventus defender Lloyd Kelly received a straight red card following a VAR review as the Italian club lost to Galatasaray in Istanbul.

Juventus defender Lloyd Kelly was dismissed during a 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray at the RAMS Park on Wednesday. The result means the Italian side exits the Champions League following a 2-1 aggregate defeat. Referee Daniel Siebert originally issued Kelly a second yellow card for a challenge on Baris Alper Yilmaz in the 75th minute.

A VAR intervention led the official to the pitchside monitor to review the incident for a potential straight red card. Siebert subsequently rescinded the yellow card and issued a direct red for serious foul play. According to UEFA regulations, VAR cannot intervene on second yellow cards unless the incident meets the threshold for a straight red.

Galatasaray secured their progression to the quarter-finals through a late goal from Mauro Icardi, per Sky Sports. Juventus manager Thiago Motta expressed frustration with the decision during his post-match comments, as reported by The Athletic. The Turin club finished the match with 10 men and failed to find the required equaliser.
