Leeds United director Peter Lowy stated that the club faces a critical juncture regarding the development of its home ground. According to The Guardian, Lowy expressed concerns that if the current plans to expand the stadium capacity do not progress, the project might never materialise. The Australian businessman, who sits on the board of the Championship club, highlighted the importance of modernising the facilities to compete at the highest level.
The proposed redevelopment aims to increase the capacity of Elland Road from 37,645 to approximately 53,000 seats. Sky Sports reports that the club has been working on these plans since the takeover by 49ers Enterprises. Lowy indicated that the ownership group remains committed to the project but noted that various factors, including planning permissions and financial logistics, must align quickly. The expansion would involve significant work on the West Stand to bring the stadium in line with UEFA Category 4 standards, per the Yorkshire Post.
