Exeter City confirmed the return of Matt Taylor to the club on March 3, 2026. The 44-year-old manager agreed a short-term contract to lead the first team until the end of the 2025-26 campaign. Taylor previously managed the Grecians for four years between 2018 and 2022, during which time he led the club to promotion from League Two, per Sky Sports.
He replaces the outgoing management team following a series of disappointing results that left the club in the bottom half of the League One table. According to The Guardian, Taylor was available after departing his previous role at Bristol Rovers earlier this season. He will take charge of training immediately ahead of this weekend's league fixture.
The board of directors stated that Taylor's familiarity with the club and his past success at St James Park made him the primary candidate for the interim position. No permanent appointment is expected until the summer, according to an official club statement released on Tuesday.
