The Football Association has fined Millwall after supporters directed abusive chants referencing disability during a cup fixture.

The Football Association fined Millwall £45,000 following an investigation into fan behaviour during a Carabao Cup tie against Crystal Palace. An independent regulatory commission found the club failed to ensure its spectators conducted themselves in an orderly fashion. Supporters engaged in abusive and insulting chanting with a reference to disability during the match at The Den, according to Sky Sports.

Millwall denied the charge, but the commission found it proven during a subsequent hearing. In addition to the financial penalty, the FA ordered the club to implement an action plan to address the issue. This plan includes measures to improve stewarding and supporter education at the stadium.

The governing body noted that the chanting breached FA Rule E21, which holds clubs responsible for the conduct of their fans regarding discriminatory behaviour. The commission's written reasons highlighted the seriousness of the incident during the South London derby, per The Guardian. Millwall must now report on its progress regarding the mandated action plan regularly.
