The Moroccan football federation has parted company with head coach Walid Regragui just four months before the World Cup finals.

Morocco have appointed Mohamed Ouahbi as the new head coach of the men's national team following the departure of Walid Regragui. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) confirmed the change on Thursday evening, according to Reuters. The decision comes four months before the national side is due to compete in the World Cup finals.

Regragui led Morocco to a historic semi-final appearance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, the FRMF decided to make a change following recent performances. Ouahbi previously served as the coach for the Moroccan under-20 team, per Sky Sports. He takes immediate charge of the senior squad as they prepare for the upcoming tournament.

The federation did not disclose the specific terms of the new appointment or the length of the contract. Ouahbi is expected to oversee the team's final warm-up fixtures before the finals begin in June. Morocco remains the highest-ranked African nation in the current world standings, according to the latest FIFA data.
