Chelsea winger Pedro Neto has issued an apology after pushing a ball boy during a 5-2 Champions League defeat by Paris St-Germain.

Neto expressed regret for his actions following the European fixture in France on Wednesday. The Portugal international pushed a ball boy while attempting to retrieve the ball during the second half of the match. Chelsea lost the game 5-2, resulting in its exit from the competition at the round of 16 stage, per Sky Sports.

Writing on social media, Neto stated his behaviour was unacceptable and did not reflect his character. The winger explained that frustration during the match led to the confrontation, according to The Guardian. Chelsea officials have spoken with the player regarding the matter.

Paris St-Germain progressed to the quarter-finals with a 6-3 aggregate victory. The French club has not filed a formal complaint following the apology, per ESPN. Neto now faces a wait to see if UEFA disciplinary chiefs will take further action. The incident occurred as Chelsea struggled to contain the home side in the final stages of the tie.
