Paul Scholes said his Instagram story regarding Manchester United interim head coach Michael Carrick was not meant to be offensive.

Paul Scholes has clarified a social media post regarding his former team-mate Michael Carrick. The former Manchester United midfielder shared an image on Instagram on Monday showing Carrick in the dug-out during a match. He included a caption referring to the interim head coach as a 'yes man', which led to criticism from some supporters online.

Scholes later deleted the post and issued a statement to clarify his position, according to Sky Sports. He stated that the comment was in no way intended to be offensive toward Carrick. The 51-year-old explained that his remarks were directed at the wider coaching structure rather than an individual.

Carrick took temporary charge of United following the departure of the previous permanent manager earlier this month, per The Guardian. The club continues its search for a long-term appointment while Carrick remains in the role. Scholes and Carrick played together for 11 seasons at Old Trafford, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2008.
