Terry frustrated over Chelsea caretaker role

Former captain John Terry expressed frustration after Chelsea overlooked him for the caretaker manager position in January.

John Terry said he felt frustrated when Chelsea chose not to offer him a caretaker management role earlier this year. The former club captain revealed his disappointment during a public appearance, noting his desire to assist the team following Enzo Maresca's departure. Chelsea instead appointed an interim coaching staff to oversee first-team duties while seeking a permanent replacement.

Terry currently works within the Chelsea academy and has previously held coaching roles at Aston Villa and Leicester City. He stated that he believed his history with the club and his coaching experience made him a suitable candidate for the short-term vacancy. According to Sky Sports, the 45-year-old remains committed to his developmental role but maintains ambitions for senior management.

Chelsea officials did not comment on the selection process for the interim position. The club continues to reorganise its technical staff as it prepares for the remainder of the 2025-26 Premier League season, per reports from The Guardian.
