Uefa hands Tottenham suspended away fan ban

Football

Tottenham Hotspur have received a suspended ban on selling tickets to away supporters following incidents during a European fixture.

Uefa has fined Tottenham Hotspur €30,000 and issued a suspended one-match ban on the sale of tickets to its away supporters. The disciplinary action follows an investigation into the conduct of fans during a Europa League fixture against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, according to Sky Sports. The governing body found that three supporters made Nazi salutes during the match.

The ticket ban is suspended for a probationary period of two years. If similar incidents occur within this timeframe, the club will be prohibited from selling tickets for its next scheduled away match in a Uefa competition. Tottenham Hotspur officials confirmed that the individuals involved were identified and subsequently received lifetime bans from the stadium, per The Guardian.

In addition to the fine for discriminatory behaviour, the club must pay €3,000 for the lighting of fireworks by supporters. Uefa stated that the sanctions reflect a zero-tolerance policy regarding racism and ideological abuse. The North London club currently sits in the top half of the Premier League table.
