HELP & SUPPORT

Everything you need to know about QFAX. If you can't find your answer below, scroll down to report a bug or send us feedback.

What is QFAX?

QFAX is a football scores and news app that looks like your nan's telly from 1985. We've lovingly recreated the Ceefax/Teletext experience for the modern age, complete with the iconic blocky fonts and that satisfying flicker. Live scores, league tables, fixtures, transfers, and news - all presented as the football gods intended and your dad loved.

How much does it cost?

The essentials are free forever: live scores, league tables, fixtures, transfers, and news. No banner ads, no upsells, no tricks. Premium features (daily personalised summaries, custom navigation, Match of the Day analysis) require a subscription. You get a 14-day free trial to kick the tyres first - no credit card required.

Do I need to create an account?

No. QFAX doesn't need an account. Download it, open it, use it. No registration, no email, no "sign in with WeBuyAnyCarDotCom", no faff. We don't want your data and Alan in Security says we've got better things to do than manage your passwords.

How do I start my free trial?

Just download QFAX from the App Store or Google Play. Premium features are yours for 14 days... No credit card, no commitment, no strings attached. When the trial ends, you'll still have full access to all free features.

What leagues and competitions do you cover?

As of November 2025, we cover the Premier League, Championship, League One, League Two, National League, National League North, National League South, FA Cup, EFL Cup, EFL Trophy, Scottish Premiership, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Eredivisie, Primeira Liga, Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. Depending on how things go, we'll add international football and more competitions. But only the big ones you actually care about.

How often do live scores update?

Every 30 seconds during matches. We're not quite as fast as being at the ground, but we're faster than your mate's WhatsApp updates about goals he's watching on an illegal stream. One time I swear I saw the goal update before it even went in on the telly.

What's the Vidiprinter? And why is it not spelled correctly?

A real-time feed of goals and key match events, styled like the classic teleprinter. Watch the updates roll in just like Final Score on Grandstand. GOAL! It's therapeutic. I spelled it wrong early on and now it's named after Nemanja Vidic.

What is "Programme Notes"? [PREMIUM]

Your personalised daily football briefing, generated fresh each morning based on your favourite teams and leagues. Match recaps, upcoming fixtures, transfer news - all summarised so you can save yourself some football-related doom-scrolling. If you like some doom in your coffee, then you can also choose to include rumours in it.

What is "Match of the Day"? [PREMIUM]

It's our deep dive into a lesser-known fixture (usually a derby or big rivalry) each day from a range of countries. We deliberately avoid the big Premier League clashes everyone's already talking about. Instead, we find hidden gems: derbies you didn't know existed, rivalries with actual history, matches where the narrative matters. Listen to it as audio while you browse the app or in the background while you drink your tea or powerwalk to Greggs.

What's the "Badger" game on Page 393?

Badger (that's you, the person who figures out the badges for the players!) is our daily football guessing game. We show you a player's career clubs (just permanent moves, no loans) and you guess who it is. There's a new hand-picked puzzle every day, Wordle-style sharing, leaderboards to see how your football knowledge stacks up against the world. Karl in Amusements says it helped him get over his crippling fear of badgers.

What's the Letterbox?

A place to write in about football or anything really. Think Points of View but exclusively about the beautiful game. Submissions are moderated for quality (no abuse, no spam). Free users can submit once every 24 hours; premium users every 4 hours for the truly prolific opiners or harbouring a "generational clapback" as the kids call it.

Do you have Fantasy Premier League features?

Yes! See the team of the week, FPL trends, differential gems (low ownership, high returns), and gameweek deadlines. Link your FPL team to check your performance, see live matchday scores, and track how goals affect your points. We can't help you avoid triple-captaining a player who gets sent off 13 minutes in though.

How do I subscribe?

Open Settings (Page 399), tap "Upgrade to Supporter", and follow the prompts. Payment is handled through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). We never see your payment details.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Through your device's subscription settings:

  • iOS: Settings - Apple ID - Subscriptions - QFAX Supporter - Cancel
  • Android: Play Store - Profile - Payments & Subscriptions - QFAX Supporter - Cancel

We can't cancel it for you - that's Apple/Google's domain. You'll keep premium access until the end of your billing period.

Can I restore my subscription on a new device?

Yes, and you've got two options:

During onboarding (new install):

  • Tap "Already with us?" on the setup screen
  • Select "Restore purchases"
  • Your subscription will be restored automatically

In the app (existing install):

  • Go to Settings (Page 399) and tap "Restore Purchases"

As long as you're signed into the same Apple ID or Google account, your subscription will magically reappear like an Arsenal player returning from injury.

Want to keep your stats and favourites too? Use a Device Link Code instead - it transfers your entire QFAX identity, not just your subscription.

How can I support the app? Is there a lifetime purchase option?

Yes! We offer a special lifetime pass for those who prefer to pay once and be done with it. You exclusively get to join the Page 100 Club, of which there are only 84 places. Check the subscription options in Settings. No recurring payments, no expiry - yours forever (or until the robots take over, whichever comes first).

What is a Team Plan?

A Team Plan lets one person (the plan manager) pay for premium access for themselves and up to 3 friends or family members. Everyone gets their own separate account with full premium features. Only the plan manager is charged - team members pay nothing. Think of it like buying a round at the pub, but for teletext football.

Team Plans are available as Monthly (£9.99/month) or Annual (£89.99/year).

How do I invite team members?

As plan manager, you can invite up to 3 people:

  1. Go to Settings (Page 399) in the app
  2. Under your Team Plan section, tap "Invite Member"
  3. You'll receive a unique 8-character invite code
  4. Share the code directly (text, WhatsApp, carrier pigeon) or send via email

Invite codes expire after 30 days if unused. If one expires, you can generate a new one. You can also remove team members at any time if your mate Dave can't stop talking about xG and you need to boot him.

What happens when someone joins my team?

When a team member redeems your invite code:

  • They immediately get full premium access
  • Their premium access lasts as long as your Team Plan subscription
  • They'll see your name as the plan manager in their Settings
  • You'll see them appear in your team member list

Each person has their own separate account - your favourites, summaries, and settings are completely independent. Karen in Finance can't see that you secretly follow Millwall.

Can I remove a team member?

Yes. Go to Settings - Team Plan - tap on the member you want to remove - "Remove from Team". Their premium access will end immediately. You can then invite someone else if you'd like. This is useful if you need to shuffle your squad mid-season. Strictly no loan deals though.

What happens when a Team Plan renews or is cancelled?

When it renews: All team members continue to have access. The plan manager is charged automatically. Business as usual.

When it's cancelled: Everyone (including the plan manager) keeps premium access until the end of the billing period. After that, all team members lose premium access simultaneously. No extra steps needed - just be sure to let your team know so they don't panic when their Programme Notes disappear one morning.

Can I gift QFAX to someone?

Absolutely! A Team Plan makes the perfect gift for the football fan in your life. Here's how:

  1. Subscribe to a Team Plan (monthly or annual)
  2. Generate an invite code
  3. Send the code via email - you can even schedule it for a specific date (Christmas morning, their birthday, the start of the new season)

When they redeem the code, they get full premium access for as long as you maintain the subscription. Unlike traditional gift cards, they're never charged - it's all on you, you generous legend.

And yes, you can gift it to up to 3 people. Perfect for your dad, your brother, and that one mate who still insists 4-4-2 is the only formation.

Where do I enter a redemption code?

You can redeem a code in two places:

For new users (during onboarding):

  • Download QFAX and open it
  • If you opened via an invite link, the code may be pre-filled
  • Otherwise, tap "I have an invite code" during setup
  • Enter your 8-character code
  • Boom - premium access starts immediately

For existing users:

  • Go to Settings (Page 399)
  • Tap "Redeem Team Invite"
  • Enter your 8-character code
  • Your premium features activate instantly

What happens after I redeem a code?

You'll see a confirmation showing:

  • Who invited you (the plan manager's name)
  • That you now have premium access
  • When your access expires (tied to the plan manager's subscription)

Premium features are available immediately - no app restart needed. Welcome to the team.

Why isn't my code working?

Check these common issues:

  • Code already redeemed: Each code can only be used once. Contact the person who sent it to you for a new one.
  • Code expired: Invite codes expire after 30 days. Ask the plan manager to generate a fresh code for you.
  • Team is full: Team Plans allow up to 3 members. The plan manager needs to remove someone before you can join.
  • Already in a team: You can only be part of one team at a time. Leave your current team first (Settings - Team - Leave Team).
  • Typo: Codes are 8 characters, letters and numbers only (e.g., A1B2C3D4). Watch out for confusing characters like 0/O and 1/I.

Still stuck? Drop us a line at [email protected] and we'll sort it out.

Can I leave a team?

Currently, only plan managers can remove team members. If you want to leave a team, ask the plan manager to remove you, or contact us and we'll help sort it out. This is like being transferred to another club - the gaffer has to approve it first.

How do I move my account to a new device?

You've got two options depending on what you want to transfer:

Option 1: Device Link Code (recommended)

Transfers your complete QFAX identity: stats, favourites, settings, Badger scores, and subscription status. Perfect for switching phones or tablets.

  1. On your old device: Go to Settings → DATA & STORAGE → "Generate device link code"
  2. You'll get an 8-character code valid for 15 minutes
  3. On your new device: During onboarding, tap "Already with us?" → "Use device link code"
  4. Enter the code and your identity moves across

Option 2: Restore Purchases

Restores your subscription only (not stats, favourites, or settings). Good if you just need premium access and don't mind starting fresh.

  • During onboarding: Tap "Already with us?" → "Restore purchases"
  • Or in Settings: Page 399 → "Restore Purchases"

What is a device link code?

A device link code is an 8-character temporary code that lets you move your QFAX identity from one device to another. It's like a transfer window, but for your account instead of Mbappé.

The code:

  • Is valid for 15 minutes after generation
  • Can only be used once
  • Transfers everything: stats, favourites, settings, game progress, subscription
  • Works for any user (free or subscribed)

Unlike restoring purchases (which only restores subscription status), a device link code transfers your complete QFAX identity.

How do I generate a device link code?

On your current device (the one you're moving from):

  1. Open Settings (Page 399)
  2. Scroll down to DATA & STORAGE
  3. Tap "Generate device link code"
  4. Your code will appear (e.g., ABCD1234)
  5. The code is valid for 15 minutes

Write it down, screenshot it, or keep your old device handy while you set up the new one. Generating a new code will invalidate any previous codes you've created.

How do I use a device link code?

On your new device (the one you're moving to):

  1. Download and open QFAX
  2. On the onboarding screen, tap "Already with us?"
  3. Select "Use device link code"
  4. Enter your 8-character code
  5. Tap "Link my device"

If successful, you'll be taken straight into the app with all your data intact. Welcome home.

Code not working? Check that:

  • The code hasn't expired (15-minute window)
  • You've entered it correctly (watch for O/0 and I/1)
  • It hasn't already been used

What gets transferred when I move my account?

With a Device Link Code (full transfer):

  • ✓ Favourite teams and leagues
  • ✓ App settings and preferences
  • ✓ Fastext button customisation
  • ✓ Badger (Career Path) game stats and progress
  • ✓ Subscription status (if subscribed)
  • ✓ Programme Notes preferences
  • ✓ FPL team link

With Restore Purchases only:

  • ✓ Subscription status
  • ✗ Everything else (you'll start fresh)

If you're switching devices and want to keep your hard-earned Badger winning streak, definitely use a device link code.

What's the "Already with us?" screen?

When you install QFAX on a new device, you'll see an onboarding screen to set up your clubs. At the bottom, there's an "Already with us?" button for existing QFAX users.

Tapping it reveals three options:

  1. Team invite code - Join someone's Team Plan
  2. Device link code - Move your identity from another device
  3. Restore purchases - Restore subscription only

Think of it as the VIP entrance for returning visitors. Skip the queue, get your stuff back, carry on.

What data do you collect?

Minimal. Anonymous usage analytics (via PostHog) to understand which features people use. Crash reports (via Sentry) to fix bugs. No personal data required, no tracking across apps, no advertising networks. We're GDPR compliant and our privacy policy is written plainly thanks to Bert in Legal.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. Settings - Delete Account will remove all your data from our servers. We're not in the business of hoarding your information.

Do you sell my data?

Absolutely not. We don't even collect enough data to sell. Our business model is subscriptions, not surveillance. Novel concept, we know.

The app isn't loading / shows SERVICE FAULT

Pull down to refresh. If that doesn't work:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Force close and reopen the app
  3. Check our status (if we're down, we're probably aware and crying about it)
  4. Try again in a few minutes
  5. Drop us an email at [email protected]

If it persists, submit a bug report below - include which page you were on and what you expected to happen. Include your email if you'd like us to follow up.

Why do some characters look weird?

That's not a bug, that's authenticity. We use a teletext-accurate character set. Some special characters don't exist in the font we use (e.g. u), so they get mapped to the closest equivalent. It's part of the charm, we're told on good authority.

Does the app work offline?

Partially. Previously loaded content should show on your device. Obviously live scores won't update without internet. When you're offline, you'll see a red "OFFLINE" somewhere on the screen. Have a look around, you'll find it. We're working on proper offline support, but Alan from Engineering is on holiday and Steve in Transmissions refuses to cover for him.

What iOS/Android versions are supported?

iOS 15+ and Android 10+. If you're running something older, we salute your commitment to retro technology. And while this is extremely ironic, we know... we can't help you here.

How do I report a bug?

Use the "Report a Bug" form below. Tell us which page you were on, what went wrong, and what you expected to happen. If you can, report the bug from the app as it includes helpful anonymous information about your device too. Add your email if you'd like us to follow up.

How do I request a feature or give feedback?

Use the "Send Feedback" form below. We read everything. Feature requests, complaints, love letters, marriage proposals for Ben and Emma in the Vertical Blanking Team - all welcome. We add new stuff weekly based on what people actually want to see.

How do I contact you for other enquiries?

Email us at [email protected]. For data deletion requests specifically, use the same address with "Data Deletion Request" in the subject line.
